Final Fantasy X
For one thousand years, Spira has been ravaged by a legendary and deathly creature called Sin, who punishes all that go against the Teachings of Yevon.
The only way to free Spira and give it peace before Sin is reborn is to send summoners who wield powerful aeons and guardians to Zanarkand to attain the final aeon and (hopefully) rid Spira of Sin for good.

He had been told that Luca was the largest city in Spira. He had believed it, but he had never been able to picture it. But here he was, an Al Bhed from Kilika walking amongst the buildings with a look of wonder and awe on his face. He had just arrived in Luca not five minutes ago, he had then ran from the port towards the inner city, just in case those he rode on the boat over here discovered the fact that he wasn't supposed to be on the boat in the first place.
His aunt and uncle who had raised him would miss him terribly. They were his only family, yet he needed more in life. Sitting amongst the trees in the Kilika Woods did not satisfy his need for his adventure, his taste of danger. The worst thing that had ever happened to Odin happened before he could remember--when he was a baby and his home was attacked by a Zu. He was raised then by his aunt and uncle under their close watch in their small apothecary on the port. During his entire life on the island, he had never once seen Sin or any of the dreaded Sin Spawn.
Instinctively at the thought of danger the boy touched the small of his back, feeling the cold metal of his guns through the insulation of his gloves. He let out a small sigh and let his hand drop from his back as he continued moving away from the danger of being spotted and stopped when he saw the city stretch out in front of him. It was so...breathtaking. He stood there for several moments just gazing at the wonder of this city when someone smacked into his shoulder, grumbling about something.
Odin adjusted the goggles covering his Al Bhed eyes and then pulled the white hood over his dark hair. He gazing continued as he walked across a bridge and then down some steps and found himself in a large circle. He spotted three merchants from the boat coming his way so he ducked into the closest building. Upon turning around he discovered he was in a bar. He dropped his hood and weaved through the patrons until he got to the bar and got himself a cheap drink. Only upon entering the establishment had he realized how parched and hungry he was.

The bar at Luca was more of a ruckus that usual, due to the simple fact that there was the crew of a particular ship in there at this time sitting up at the bar, all of which loved to drink, fool about and often get into fights. Most of them were young Al Bhed's, though there were a few 'normal' humans among them as well. One of them, which was mostly thought of as their leader, was a young man known as The Blue Jay. At first glance you might have though him an Al Bhed due to his blond hair, but his eyes were a deep brown rather then bright green of his friends. And he was probably one of the loudest of them all, hollering out to his friends and laughing at full volume at their jokes and antics.
But once when Jay was sipping at his pint of beer, he noticed someone out of the corner of his eyes, sitting next to him. He put done his drink and turned his head slightly to look at the stranger in white clothing, and while doing so noticed the young mans eyes. Green swirls… but Jay didn’t recognize this strange, dark haired Al Bhed, even though he knew nearly everyone that lived on Bikanel Island. He left his crew to their fun and turned his body more towards the stranger. "Rao drana, frana yna oui vnus?" he asked in his second language after the stranger had ordered his drink, smiling slightly at him.

Odin slid off his goggles that shielded his eyes not only from the sun, but from other people seeing his eyes, as he waited for his drink. The lack of sunlight and the dark tint of the goggles made it hard to see so he let his goggles hang around his neck until he would need them again. He couldn't help but gaze around the bar with wonder, no such building existed in Kilika. Sure, there were stores and small restaurants but nothing quite like this. And just as well, Odin was beginning to realize that almost every single person in there was an Al Bhed. The idea seemed almost silly to him for a moment. But then he remembered that there was no temple in Luca unlike Kilika where Odin was the only Al Bhed, besides his Aunt, but her eyes weren't even swirled.
Odin hear a slur of a sentence from the man sitting next to him, he turned to face the man and realized he must be speaking Al Bhed. Oh crap. What did he say? How are you? No, he said more words than that. Odin was very rusty on his Al Bhed because his aunt never really took time to teach him. "Gemegy. Tu oui cbayg Ahkmecr?" Odin replied with a shaky uncertainty. He hoped he said it right. He really didn't want to piss off a drunk man.

Though he may have seemed it, Jay wasn’t quite as drunk yet as his companions, or else he wouldn’t have spoken politely to the young Al Bhed next to him. Instead, he probably would have clapped the stranger over the shoulders and asked him to join him for a drink. But in his half drunk state he was more curious about the young man than impulsed to embarrass himself. He was always ready to find out about new people, because sometimes the information they could give him was useful, and he also enjoyed making friends.
When the stranger answered his question Jay realized why he hadn’t seen him before; he lived in a different place from home, which some Al Bhed decided to do, though not many. Home was the best place for them, where they had a tight community and no Yevonites could discriminated against them. However, Jay’s inquisitiveness grew when the young man asked his question, for it seemed to Jay a very strange thing for an Al Bhed to ask. “Yes… why do you ask?” he said now in English, confused because he knew that nearly all Al Bhed’s preferred to talk in their own language, no matter whom they were around.

Odin watched with growing anticipation as it seemed he was either confused about what Odin said, or he had said something completely different. He had hoped not. Even though the man didn't have the taletale signs of being Al Bhed, the man next to him was more Al Bhed than Odin was. Which was a rather sad thing to realize. Odin then wished he had taken the time to learn more about his heritage. And learn the language.
"Because I...can't speak Al Bhed very well, as you may have noticed." Odin admitted somewhat shamefully. He then held out his hand with a small friendly smile. "I'm Odin. And you are?" He asked, it would be nice if this guy new something about Luca, so Odin wouldn't be walking around completely doe-eyed like he had on his way here. Best to blend in than stick out.

Jay was, to say the least, very surprised. When the young Al Bhed explained himself, the treasure hunter’s eyes widened and his eyebrows shot up. An Al Bhed that couldn’t speak Al Bhed? It probably had to be one of the strangest things that he had heard in a long while, mostly because it hardly made sense. When the young man had spoke Al Bhed to him he hadn’t actually noticed anything strange about it, but then again he might have not been paying very close attention. But now he noticed that the young stranger looked rather embarrassed about this, and so composed his face back to normal again.
When the young man introduced himself and held out his hand, Jay decided that he would forget about the boy’s inability for now. “Well, hello Odin,” Jay said in a friendly manner, taking the Al Bhed’s hand and shaking it. “The name’s Jay, though some have come to know me as ‘The Blue Jay’, however, you can just call me Jay,” he said, letting go of Odin’s hand and then taking another sip from his mug. “So, Odin, why you be in Luca then? Come to watch the Blitzball?” he asked, taking the obvious next step in the conversation. He could hear the joking and hollering of his comrades behind him, though he paid them no mind at the moment.

'The Blue Jay'? Was he a pirate or something? It sounded like a pirate name. Odin kept this comment to himself though he was incredibly curious as to why he got that name. He smiled slightly. He could say he was here for Blitzball, but it was a lie. Odin didn't really care for the water sport. It was rather boring to watch. "Nope. I'm here to....live I suppose. There isn't that much to do on Kilika. And priest hood..." He waved a hand at his eyes," Out of the question." Odin told him.
"So do you...are you knew to Luca or are you new here too?" Odin asked. The woman finally returned with his drink and he downed half of it at once. He made a small face at the bite to it and then set his glass down.

Jay took a moment to consider what Odin said. “Yeah, I guess your right; I’ve been to Kilika a few times myself but I can’t say it’s really all that exciting,” he commented, thinking that if he had lived there he would have probably wanted to get out as fast as he could as well. There was really nothing like being free to do as you please; and that was what Jay thrived on. And he could kind of tell from they way Odin spoke about Luca that the young Al Bhed was completely new to this place, and his suspicion was confirmed by the boy’s next question.
“Oh, I come here a lot, more then most places; however, I don’t tend to stay for very long anywhere. Not when there’s a whole world out there to explore,” he said chuckling, sweeping his hand around himself in a gesture to go with his words. “However, I will say this boy; Luca is a popular place, and the living can be expensive and even dangerous to the inexperienced, especially and Al Bhed,” Jay explained to Odin.
“You must probably know how your kind is treated by some of the people around here. So I was just wondering; do you have the money to afford a place? Because I can tell you, getting work around here can sometimes be tough, even more so for an Al Bhed, for the majority of the people around here hold their religion very close to heart,” he tried to advise, feeling just a bit worried for the boy. Usually he didn’t care so much for people, but he had a soft spot for Al Bhed.

Odin listened to him intently. He nodded. Odin didn't come completely without plans. Should he reveal how he planned to get money? "I've had my fair bit of experience with trading. And I've got some....items that I could trade to get some extra gil." Odin offered, not revealing completely what all he had hanging on his back. He didn't know if this guy was completely trustworthy, although he had done nothing to prove him wrong. Then again he also didn't know if anybody was listening in on them. What if some thief learned he had seven Mega-Phoenix in his bag. He twiddled his thumbs on the bar for a moment, his eyes gazing around the place in wonder. For so long he had been planning on getting out of Kilika, he had never planned on what he would do afterwards. "I may be wrong on this, but outside of Home, Luca is the easiest place to get a job because there is no Temple here." He said, he knew very well how shunned he was ever time he went with his aunt and uncle to pray at the temple.

You could almost see Jay’s ears perk up at the mention of Gil. What the young man had just said had made Jay even more curious about him. “Items you say? And of what sort would they be, precious treasures, or just valuable common items?” he asked casually, though without hesitation, not thinking he might make the young Al Bhed uncomfortable with such pressing questions which invaded personal matters. He was just interested, since he was heavily into trading as well. Jay might even be able to do business with this young lad if he had any attracting items, and maybe even be able to get a good deal by playing with the Al Bhed’s slight naivety. After all, for Jay, Gil mostly came before people he liked, even sometimes his own crew. He tried to keep a hopeful smile at bay so the boy wouldn’t get suspicious.
“You be right there boy, however, though it may be easier here than other towns because there is no temple, it’s not real lot easier. For job opportunities for Al Bhed, this place may be second to Home, though it’s still a distance second,” Jay said in reply to Odin’s second statement. Then he seemed to think for a minute before saying, “But… I guess that though most of the people here are religious Spirians, Al Bhed are becoming more and more accepted than they were just a short while ago. So who knows; tomorrow the world might be turned upside down and the Al Bhed will rule it instead?” Jay laughed heartily at his statement, which was half joke, though also half serious. The world was changing now, more than ever before. Anything could happen… maybe even Sin could be defeated for good?
Jay took another sip from his drink and then wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “But I will wish you luck in this place boy; just try to keep out of trouble,” he said with a smile when he looked back at Odin. “Hey, actually, if you’re having problems, why not come to me? I’ll take care of ya, even try ‘n find you a job if you’re desperate. I always look out for my swirly eyed mates.” Jay placed his hand on Odin’s shoulder in a friendly manner, still smiling.

"I've got some equipment, mostly just powerful items though." Odin admitted, still not revealing the power or how rare his items are. He was a curious and helpful man, but his question came from learned lips. There was a spark in his eye that led Odin to believe he would get ripped off if he made a fast deal to Jay. If the man asked to see his items, that is. He might just point him in the right direction for a merchant. Maybe he could even apprentice to one of the store owners. That might work.
"I don't think the tide would turn so much, not in one day anyway. The Yevonites are spread to the farthest reaches of Spira. The Al Bheds would have no hope of gaining control, not unless Sin attacked Bevelle and destroyed it. And that would be a horrible, horrible thing to happen. Although that are prejudice against us Al Bheds, it is not their fault. It is simple traditions and feat that keep them where they are. I don't blame them for it, sure I would wish they would not treat us the way they do, but wishing and crying about it won't fix anything." Odin told him, looking into the contents of his drink as he spoke. He actually pitied the average man and woman of Spira. Their religious beliefs squashed their potentials. It was sad that kids growing up either aspired to be a guardian, summoner, or monk. It was sad indeed.
"Really? You mean that?" Odin asked when his new acquaintance sort of offered him a job. "That's very nice of you. Really." He smiled, finishing the last of his drink. He made a face at the alcoholic afterburn, but he ordered another one anyway.

When Odin had explained the nature of the items that he was carrying, Jay's interest seemed to fade away. "Oh, I see. I had just been wondering if you had been carrying any rare treasures, for thats the type of trading I'm most interested in. But I have no like for powerful items..." he shrugged, taking to swigs of beer in succession. "I have known a few people on the market that mainly deal in that stuff, but their names seemed to have yet again slipped my mind... oh well," Jay said unhelpfully with another shrug and a smile.
After Odin's long expression of his ideas, Jay gave him a bit of a weird look, one eyebrow raised. "It was just a joke lad," he said in a low spirited way, not having expected the Al Bhed to react to it in that way. Maybe this individual was more serious than Jay had first thought, and he definitely seemed to have strong opinions. Maybe he should try to steer clear of conversation with the boy about Al Bhed discrimination in the future.
Jay laughed a bit at Odin's first reaction to his offer. "I don't usually say what I don't mean lad," Jay reassured Odin, smiling again now. "And don't mention it; nice isn't supposed to be a well known part of my reputation you know," he explained, before turning to the bar keeper and ordering a bottle of whiskey after Odin had ordered again.

He was carrying some rare items. Odin just really didn't want to tell him yet. He readjusted the pack on his shoulders, as if confirming it was still there. He stretched his arms out in front of him, his joints popping as he looked back at this friendly man. Too bad he couldn't remembered their names, he wanted to start this adventure as soon as possible, yet he couldn't do that if he didn't have any gil. Maybe he should by a chocobo first? Or a sword? Yet either one was tremendously expensive, at least to him anyway.
Odin smiled, slightly embarrassed. "Sorry, I was raised in a prejudice community and with heavy opinions. It's a bit of a touchy subject." He admitted sheepishly. He was trying to relax, the alcohol was helping slightly, but still, he would always have switches and the Al Bhed oppression was a major one.
"Oh, sure sure." Odin grinned, Jay seemed like a nice guy, but what he said led Odin to believe he always didn't behave as such soft and friendly exterior. It made Odin feel better knowing that the man had perhaps taken a liking to him so it could potentially make Odin's goals that much easier to reach...as soon as he figured out what his goals were. The woman dropped off his drink and he took another large swig. The mixture of liquid didn't taste as bad or as strong as the first drink which led him to believe it was working.
